Overview

At Learn The Arts!®, we've developed our group piano program over decades of experience. Our skilled group piano coaches are experts at teaching students to learn and play the piano together, creating their first music orchestra! In our state-of-the-art classrooms, equipped with eight full-sized, professional-quality pianos/keyboards, each student can play on their own instrument during the lesson. This unique setup fosters teamwork, discipline, and most importantly, fun. Students build a piano family and eagerly anticipate returning to class each week. Our group piano program is designed for beginners, typically ages 5-10, providing an engaging and supportive environment for young pianists to flourish.

For beginners, learning an instrument can be intimidating. However, when placed in a happy environment with peers, learning the piano becomes an exciting adventure! From day one, students learn to play their first song on the piano together, creating an immediate sense of accomplishment. While students learn everything they would in private lessons, the group environment adds a valuable social aspect. Through music games and building friendships, young pianists naturally develop strong musicianship skills and train their musical ear. This collaborative approach helps students learn to accompany others and prepares them for future ensemble playing. Group piano also teaches the importance of working well with others in a positive, encouraging environment.

Our group piano classes at Learn The Arts!® are 45 minutes long and typically have 4-8 students per class. We use the renowned Alfred Piano Library series, exposing students to all areas of music. Our comprehensive curriculum covers technique, music theory, sight-reading, ear training, creativity, and how to play a variety of solo and ensemble pieces. This well-rounded approach ensures that students develop a strong foundation in all aspects of piano playing, setting them up for long-term success in their musical journey.

Every child is unique, and their learning preferences can vary. Some children thrive in social settings, while others may prefer one-on-one instruction. At Learn The Arts!®, we always recommend trying out group piano for a month or two to see how your child responds. Our coaches will communicate regularly about your child's progress and make recommendations based on their observations. While some students may need more individualized attention to work in more detail or progress faster, most children flourish in the exciting and supportive environment that group piano provides. The joy of making music together often brings out the best in young learners.

For students eager to get the most out of their music education, we often recommend combining private and group piano lessons. This dual approach allows your child to benefit from both learning environments. In group classes, students learn to keep pace with their peers and follow a structured curriculum. The group setting is fun and motivating, but may not always allow for exploration of individual interests. Private lessons, on the other hand, offer the flexibility to focus on particular songs or areas of interest outside the group curriculum. By taking both, your child gets the best of both worlds: the group class teaches the foundation, while the private class allows for personalized focus and extra repertoire. Talk to our front desk staff about this combination to supercharge your child's musical growth!

At Learn The Arts!®, we go above and beyond the typical music school experience. Instead of just offering small recitals once or twice a year, we provide our group piano students with diverse performance opportunities to celebrate their progress and build confidence. Our spectacular biannual concert events feature full-sized keyboards on stage, allowing students to demonstrate for their loved ones the magic of playing the piano as an ensemble!

But that's not all – we offer a range of performance experiences throughout the year. From monthly complimentary performances at community venues to virtual concerts and special events, there's always an opportunity for our group piano students to shine. We believe in making these experiences accessible and enjoyable for all, which is why we offer many of these additional performance opportunities at no extra charge.

Whether your child is playing their first duet or participating in a grand piano ensemble, Learn The Arts!® is committed to providing rewarding performance experiences that showcase their growing skills and boost their confidence. These frequent, varied performances not only allow students to share their music but also provide valuable real-world experience that typical music schools can't match.
